Art in Another Dimension: The Big Reveal -- a master class -- stretch one's imagination to reveal a hidden element

Accompanying her solo show "Thinking Inside the Box ~ collages and assemblages" in the Mindy Ross Gallery, artist Monica Ostrow is presenting a master class from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the gallery and the OBTC Great Room 101 in Kaplan Hall

"Art in Another Dimension: The Big Reveal" will be an exploration into the use of non-traditional art materials and methods to make a unique, personal statement

The class, which is free and open to the public, will begin with a tour of the exhibit during which the artist will talk about her conceptualization of the artworks and how they evolve while also taking questions from attendees

Then, Ostrow will give examples of how materials were used by twentieth century artists Marcel Du Champs, Joseph Cornell, Louise Nevelson, Louise Bourgoise, Robert Rauschenberg, David Chase, Joseph Chamberlin in the progression of the modern artistic idiom.

Attendees will be offered the opportunity of creating their own works using watercolors, paper, modgepodge, pencil, and lots of craft materials and magazine images. With a provided example they will be invited to structure a collage using paper and color to reveal a hidden element.

This class should stretch one’s imagination while gaining a better understanding of the time and thought process that goes into original art.

Monica Ostrow holds a BA cum laude from Wilkes University. She took extensive graduate courses at Scranton University. She also attended the School of Visual Art in NYC where she studied graphic design, oil painting, and television production.
