The North East Watercolor Society Members Show: 118 works by 65 artists

The North East Watercolor Society 2019 Members’ Show is now on view in Orange Hall Gallery and Loft through March 18. Never one to disappoint, the excellent quality of the works as well as how they are framed and displayed visually convey the standard set by the organization.

The versatility of this transparent and semi-transparent medium is demonstrated by the still lifes, genre paintings, land and seascapes, in styles from photo-realistic to semi-abstracts with variations of loose to detailed techniques.

2019 marks the 43rd year that NEWS has presented its Members Show. This year 118 small to large paintings by 65 artists are a sight to behold upon entering the gallery. Visitors may come during gallery hours 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Also, the gallery will be open Friday, Feb. 15 until 9:30 p.m.

The reception at which ten awards will be presented at the end, will take place on Sunday, March 3 from 1 to 4:15 p.m. Pianist Geoff Hamburg will start off the afternoon event at 1 p.m. by playing classical and jazz standards.

Then, at 2:30 p.m., award-winning watercolorist and exhibit judge, Lynn D. Pratt, will give an hour and a quarter long demonstration, Bringing the Third Dimension to Life. The style in which Pratt works is photo-realistic similar to the trompe l'oeil paintings of nineteenth century artist William Harnett. She will explain how she controls watercolors as she focuses and highlights specific details in precision. In addition to her live demonstration painting, she will reference the paintings in her solo show, It’s All in the Details: Dynamic Watercolor, on the long wall of Orange Hall Gallery Fringe. Come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of art and music.

Please note: the reception and demonstration and exhibits are free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to Orange Hall Questions may be addressed to Cultural Affairs at (845) 341-4891 or You may also visit the Cultural Affairs website at
